Positioning and monitoring system for marine component in recovery equipment of significant metals from seawater by using adsorbent was designed and assembled to avoid unexpected accidents. This system which was set on float part of the marine component obtains the position data by means of GPS satellites and send them to Takasaki and Mutsu establishments through satellite communication. As characteristic test for 20 days in the real sea, 256 data were obtained every 2 hours. The wrong data was eight and the positioning accuracy was 200.7m. To improve these characteristics, two new functions were added to the present firmware. These are to raise positioning resolutions in longitude and latitude from 0.001 to 0.00001 degree and to average remaining three data of positioning after maximum and minimum data were removed from continuous five times positioning. The improved system shows no wrong datum, average positioning of 6.74m. This performance is enough to prevent marine equipment from its drifting accident.

Strain budget accompanied with the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes inferred from geodetic and geological data

Watanabe, Tsuyoshi; Asamori, Koichi; Umeda, Koji*

no journal, ,

We estimated the strain released by the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes in the co- and post-seismic periods and the strain rate in the inter-seismic period using GPS data. Moreover, based on the active fault data, we estimated geological strain rate. From the results, we found that the shear strain as much as 7.103$$times$$10$$^{-6}$$ strain was released by the M7.3 earthquake and the strain released within the first about 2.5 months following the main shock was estimated to be one order of magnitude smaller than that of the co-seismic period. Furthermore, the recurrence interval was estimated to be 3100 years by comparing geological strain rate and co-seismic strain released by the main shock. These results were good agreement with the recurrence interval evaluated from the active fault data.

Advancement of airborne radiation measurement technology, 1; Contribution of position precision by GPS for manned helicopter monitoring

no journal, ,

Count rates of radiation and the positional information (latitude, longitude, and height) are acquired simultaneously in airborne monitoring. The precision of positional information affects the air dose rates at 1 m height because air dose rates at 1 m height are calculated by correction of height. In this study, 3 GPS devices are used in addition to 1 GPS device which has been used in previous airborne monitoring. The most appropriate GPS device were determined by comparing precisions of positional information and influences on air dose rates at 1 m height.
